Twine and zip ties were my old patio trellis, then I measured the sag

I used to string tomato vines up with whatever I had, zip ties and old twine, and every August the whole thing drooped into the dirt by the fence line. Last spring I finally built a simple wire grid on wooden posts, cost about $40 in materials, and now the plants stand straight even after a heavy rain. Has anyone else switched from improvised supports to a real structure and noticed how much less time you spend fixing things?

My buddy Tim made the same switch and said his tomatoes finally stopped "fighting gravity," but he still spends every weekend untangling his hose.

Are we sure it's the hoses that are fighting gravity, or the tomatoes giving him ideas?
