Warning: my fancy new string lights turned into a tangled nightmare

I bought a set of those globe string lights from Target for my patio last Saturday. They looked beautiful but I didn't realize the wind would knot them into a massive bird's nest overnight. Spent 2 hours untangling them on my deck in the rain. Has anyone else found a trick to keep patio lights from turning into a mess?

Two hours in the rain sounds like a personal choice more than a design flaw. Just cut the whole mess down and buy a pack of zip ties for like three bucks next time. Wind isn't going to stop being wind just because you bought pretty lights.

Richard's got a point honestly... zip ties work but you gotta attach them right or they just snap in the wind. My buddy used velcro cable wraps on his pergola and they held up way better than anything else he tried. You can loop them around each bulb socket and anchor them to the frame with a small screw hook. That way when the wind hits they just swing a little instead of twisting into a mess. Rain still sucks though, maybe wait for a dry day to set it up.

My wife bought some cheap solar lanterns off Amazon last summer and had the same problem with the cords twisting up something fierce. Ended up wrapping each cord section with those little cable clips you use for computer wires, then stapling them to the porch railing with a staple gun. Took about twenty minutes and they stayed put through three storms.
