Can we talk about how I stopped digging up my carrots too early and finally got a real crop
Everyone in my local garden group keeps saying you have to pull carrots by mid-August here in Boise or they get woody, but last year I left half my row in the ground until the first week of October and those were the sweetest, biggest carrots I've grown in 6 seasons. I just brushed the soil back with my fingers to check the top of the root instead of yanking one up, and it turns out waiting let them size up without going tough at all. Has anyone else had better luck ignoring the calendar and going by what the soil and the carrot top actually tell you?
