Honestly, my tomato plants looked fried after three 100-degree days in a row
I came out Tuesday morning and half the leaves were curled up and crispy, which was a huge bummer because I'd just gotten my first green fruit. Ngl, I gave them a deep soak with the hose in the evening and they perked back up a lot by the next day. Has anyone else had luck with shade cloth for heat waves like this?

I always thought shade cloth was overkill until a heat wave like that wiped out my peppers last year. It made a huge difference this season, totally saved them.

Yeah that "overkill until it's not" thing is so real. I mean, I see it with stuff like phone cases or car maintenance too. You don't think you need it until one bad day changes your mind.

Okay but come on, is a shade cloth actually necessary? It just seems like extra work and money for maybe one bad week a year. Plants have survived heat forever without us putting up special fabric for them.
