Remembered my neighbor swore by watering tomatoes at night to avoid that. Turns out she was just drowning the roots and got blossom end rot instead.

My buddy did the exact same thing last year. He was so proud of his "night watering schedule" until all his tomatoes got mushy bottoms.

Guess it depends on your soil type.
