I finally shelled out $150 for a decent drip irrigation kit
My back just can't handle dragging hoses around anymore, especially after that heatwave last June killed my whole cucumber patch. I put in a simple drip system from a local farm supply place, nothing fancy. Took me about 4 hours to set up on a Saturday, and it's already saved me from forgetting to water the tomatoes twice this week. The peppers are looking better than they have in years, honestly. Has anyone else switched over and noticed a big jump in their harvest?

Killed my whole cucumber patch" - you sure it wasn't the heat AND some watering issue?

Oh man, that's a bummer about the cucumber patch. I feel your pain. I had a whole row of pickling cukes die on me last year (still not sure what I did wrong) and it was just sad walking past all those shriveled vines. The heat and watering thing is tricky. I had to rig up a drip system because my hose timer kept sticking and then the plants would get blasted with water all at once. But then I think I over-compensated and the soil got too soggy, which I'm pretty sure caused some root rot. Honestly, gardening sometimes feels like you're just guessing and hoping for the best.

Whoa hold on, I gotta push back on this a little. I mean yeah gardening is a guessing game sometimes but it's not ALL luck. You can't just say "oh well, hope for the best" because there's so much you actually can control. Like if your soil is getting too soggy just check it with your finger before watering, it's not rocket science. And those drip systems can be set to a timer so you don't have to guess at all. Honestly I think people give up too fast and blame bad luck when the real issue is they didn't stick to a solid plan.
