I swore my clay soil was hopeless until my neighbor's tomato harvest made me eat my words
For 3 years I dumped bags of store-bought potting mix into my beds because I thought our hard red clay was garbage. Then my neighbor Doreen showed me her 7 foot tomato plants growing straight in the same dirt, and admitted she'd just been mixing in compost and leaves every fall. Now I'm wondering what else I've been fighting against instead of working with, what's your worst soil mistake?

Skip the potting mix, clay just needs compost worked in.
