Just weighed my first zucchini of the season and it was 3 pounds

I planted a couple of 'Black Beauty' seeds back in early April and honestly forgot about them for a bit. Went out this morning and there was this absolute monster hiding under the leaves. My kitchen scale said 3 pounds even. I've never grown one that big before, it's almost comical. Makes me wonder if I'm feeding the soil better this time or if it's just the weird weather we've had. Has anyone else had a veggie just blow past your expectations like that?

Leather skin" means it's perfect for grilling whole.

Yeah, the "hiding under the leaves" part gets me every time. Once they get that big the skin gets pretty tough, so I usually shred them for bread or fritters.

The skin gets like leather at that point.
