My $30 plastic cloche was a total waste... the wind just blew it over and snapped my seedlings.

Bought it to protect some early lettuce starts from a late frost. Should have just used some old milk jugs with the bottoms cut off, they're heavier and free. Anyone have a better fix for sudden cold snaps?

Ugh, that's the worst. I read somewhere that pushing a few short stakes into the ground around the cloche helps anchor it. Sageadams is right about the wind, it's brutal.

Feel your pain, that wind is a real seedling killer.

You called it a seedling killer, and man is that right. I lost a whole flat of tomatoes last week because I thought they were hardened off enough. That gust just snapped them at the soil line. What are you doing to protect yours, staking them early or using some kind of windbreak?
