My neighbor told me to stop watering my tomatoes every day and I thought he was crazy
Bill, who has gardened here in Dayton for forty years, saw me out with the hose one evening and said, 'Nora, you're drowning them. Give them a deep soak twice a week, tops.' I was sure my plants would wilt and die. I had been giving them a light sprinkle every single morning for weeks. But I tried it his way, and after about a month, the difference was huge. The plants got sturdier, the leaves stopped looking pale, and I got way more flowers. It turns out I was just making the roots lazy and shallow. Now I water deeply on Mondays and Thursdays, and the soil stays moist underneath. Has anyone else had a piece of advice that went against everything you thought you knew?

Honestly I thought daily watering was the only way until my plants got way better with deep soaks.

Plants dying from too much water seems a bit over the top. My neighbor waters his garden every single day and everything looks fine. Maybe people just pick the wrong plants for their climate. It can't be that big of a deal if you're paying any attention at all.
