My tomato plants got sunburned last week and I feel dumb

I planted my tomatoes in full sun on the south side of the yard near Denver, thinking more sun meant more fruit. But last Tuesday the leaves turned white and crispy during a heat wave. Should I put up shade cloth or just move them to a spot with afternoon shade next year?

Denver? Man, that's brutal. I had a buddy out there lose an entire row of peppers last August before he finally put up some shade cloth.

Put up a shade cloth on hoops over mine after I saw the same thing happen. I use a 40% shade cloth that lets through enough light but stops the leaves from burning. Moved the pots to a spot with afternoon shade too just to be safe. The plants bounced back in about a week with new green growth coming through.

And a shade cloth can really help during those intense afternoon heat waves here.
