The difference a $5 bag of lime made to my clay soil in two months

My peppers went from stunted and yellow to knee-high and dark green after I finally tested the pH and it was 5.2. Anyone else in the Midwest have a go-to fix for acidic dirt?

My friend's garden was a total mess until she tried @kim.zara's compost trick, which worked wonders on that heavy clay.

Seriously? Just lime fixes everything?

Honestly, I've had the opposite experience with lime. It made my clay soil way too clumpy and hard to work with. I found that adding a lot of compost over time worked better for me, even if it was slower. It fixed the pH a bit but also helped the soil texture so my plants could actually use the nutrients. That clay just turns into concrete sometimes.
