Unpopular opinion: I stopped using tomato cages three years ago and my plants are better for it.

I used to cage everything, but after a storm in July 2021 flattened my whole setup, I switched to just using a single strong stake and tying the main stem loosely with twine. The plants get more air, I see fewer bugs, and harvesting is way easier. What's your go-to method for keeping tomatoes off the ground?

I was a total cage loyalist for years, swore by them. Watching my neighbor's staked plants do better after that same storm made me switch. Now I use the Florida weave with posts and string, and it's a total game changer for my bigger beds. So much easier to manage.

Didn't I read that the weave lets plants sway a bit so they get stronger?
