Visited the county fair and saw a huge line for heirloom tomato seeds
I was at the Clark County Fair last weekend and the longest line at the whole garden section was for a booth selling old heirloom tomato varieties. The lady running it said she sold out of 'Cherokee Purple' in under an hour. Are heirloom seeds getting more popular than the normal ones you find at the big stores?

Wow, that's wild but it doesn't surprise me at all. It feels like people are getting tired of the same few perfect-looking but bland tomatoes from the grocery store. Heirlooms have those weird shapes and crazy flavors you just can't find otherwise. Do you think the big seed companies will ever catch on and start selling more interesting varieties, or are they stuck on what ships and stores the best?

Oh man, @juliashah, you hit on something big. I mean, those companies are built for huge farms, right? They pick what grows fast and tough, not what tastes good. Maybe it's just me, but I wonder if the real change will come from regular people saving and swapping seeds. That's how we keep the cool, weird ones alive, not waiting for the big guys to care.

Totally get what you mean, @juliashah. Those grocery store tomatoes are just sad. Feels like a lot of us want that real flavor back, even if the fruit looks a little funny.
