The before and after of a fire hydrant spot near my apartment complex

I live near a busy intersection on Elm Street and there's this fire hydrant right at the corner. For like two years straight people parked in front of it like it was a reserved spot. I'd see a beaten up minivan or a shiny SUV just chilling there every morning. Then about three months ago the city came through and painted bright yellow curbs and added a big sign. Now nobody parks there and it looks almost weird empty. I actually saw a guy try to stop there last week and his passenger pointed at the sign and he drove off. Makes me wonder how many tickets or fines could have stopped this earlier. Has anyone else seen a spot get fixed like that after being ignored for ages?

Did you ever notice if any of those regular parkers actually got tickets before the curb got painted? I watch the corner near my place where people block the alley entrance all the time and I swear the city only enforces after they put up signs. Makes me wonder if they even bother ticketing before making it "official.

Right?! Its like the city needs to make it look pretty before they actually care. I watched this one spot on my street for months where people would park right up on the sidewalk near a fire hydrant, no curb paint or anything, and nothing ever happened. Then one day they came and painted it bright red, and within a week there were tickets on three cars. I swear its just a revenue thing for them, they dont want to bother unless its clearly marked so they can prove it in court or something. Drives me nuts.

Actually the city usually doesn't need painted curbs or signs to ticket for hydrant parking, it's illegal regardless. But I bet they were waiting for a complaint or budget to do the paint job before cracking down.
