Hot take: roommates who leave dishes in the sink for 3 days vs roommates who load the dishwasher wrong
My roommate Jake stacks bowls in the sink and lets them sit until Friday, which I counted as 3 full days last week. But here is my issue. When I finally wash them, the other roommate loads the dishwasher with forks pointing up and cups on the bottom rack, so nothing gets clean. I honestly cannot decide which one bugs me more. The sink pile is nasty, but at least I know the plates are dirty. With the bad dishwasher load, I run a cycle for 90 minutes thinking everything is fine, then pull out a greasy bowl. Which one would you take: the guy who never washes anything, or the guy who "washes" things that come out dirtier?
Used to be all in on the sink guy being worse. Dirty dishes sitting there is gross and everyone can see it, so it feels like the bigger deal. Then I got a roommate who stacked the dishwasher like a game of Jenga and I flipped. At least with the sink pile you know what you are getting. You see the mess, you deal with it, done. With a bad load you waste a whole cycle, the soap, the time, and you trust it and then eat off a bowl with last night's grease still on it. I would take the sink guy every time now. The fix is easy too, just tell him to wash his stuff, but you cannot easily fix someone who thinks cups go on the bottom rack and forks go up.
