$60 stand mixer from a garage sale died on batch 3 of cookie dough.
Motor started smoking and it smelled awful. Anybody else get burned buying used kitchen gear?

Smoking and smelled awful" - yikes. Read somewhere that old KitchenAids have plastic gears that melt. Cheap fix if you're handy though.

Honestly though, a little burning smell from an old mixer doesn't sound like a total disaster. Most of the time it's just dust burning off or a belt slipping, not the end of the world. Unless smoke is pouring out of it, I'd probably just unplug it and see if it works tomorrow.
