My aunt swore by adding a tablespoon of vinegar to pie crust
She said it makes it flaky every time, so I tried it for my apple pie last weekend and the crust was tough as leather. Has anyone else had a bad experience with vinegar in dough?

That tough crust happened to me too until I switched to using cold vodka instead of vinegar.

Actually, vodka works because the alcohol evaporates faster than water! It gives you less gluten development without making the crust soggy. So it's not about not caring, it's a pretty smart trick.

Joelt70 is out here making pie crust with vodka like it's a cocktail party. I guess the secret to a flaky crust is just not caring about it too much.
