TIL the oven at my cousin's wedding in Dayton was 75 degrees off, and 3 trays of cookies paid the price
My cousin got married in Dayton last month and asked me to handle the cookie table, which is a big deal in that part of Ohio. I baked 6 trays at my house, drove them over, and the venue's oven was running 75 degrees hot so the last 3 trays came out dark on the bottom. An older aunt watched me panic, pulled out a little oven thermometer from her purse, and showed me the dial was lying to me the whole time. Now I keep that $8 thermometer in my bag for every potluck and rented kitchen I walk into. Does anyone else carry their own thermometer to other people's houses, or is that just a me thing now?
Wait, the venue's oven was off by 75 degrees and nobody there noticed before your cookies got ruined? That is insane to me because that kind of heat difference would burn pretty much anything you put in there. Good on that aunt for having a thermometer in her purse, she basically saved you from a total cookie table disaster.
