Watched a guy at the laundromat pour cake batter into a Pyrex pan and I realized my oven temp was lying to me for 8 months
So I was at the Spin City on 9th dropping quarters in a dryer and this older guy next to me pulls out a cake pan from his canvas bag. He said he bakes at the laundromat because his apartment oven runs 45 degrees hot and he doesn't trust it. That made me think about my own bakes. Every cookie sheet I've pulled since October has had burnt bottoms and raw middle and I just assumed it was my baking soda. Bought a $6 oven thermometer on a whim and sure enough, my dial saying 350 is really 395. Anyone else dealing with a cheap oven that needs a 40 degree offset, or is it just me fighting a losing battle with mine?
Did you test it at a few different temps or just the 350 setting? Mine was only off at higher temps so the offset wasn't even the same across the board.
