A client in Denver swore by using a hot towel before every shave, and I finally tried it

For about a year, this regular kept telling me, 'Pat, you gotta steam the face first, it makes all the difference.' I was skeptical, thinking my prep was fine. Last month, I finally got a proper hot towel cabbie and started doing it for every straight razor shave. The difference was real. The hair softened up so much, the razor just glided. I used to get maybe one or two tiny nicks a week, but since I started, I haven't had a single one in three weeks. It adds maybe two minutes to the service, but clients love the feel and the shave is cleaner. Has anyone else found a simple prep step that changed your results this much?

Wish I'd tried that years ago. It's crazy how one small change can fix a problem you just lived with.

Sometimes that small fix, @oscar743, just creates a whole new set of problems you never saw coming.

Read an article that said hot towels open up the pores and soften the hair at a basic level. Makes total sense why it would help the razor glide better. Sounds like you found a game changer.
