Blew out a pair of clippers doing a fade on a kid who wouldn't sit still
I was in my chair at Lou's Barbershop in Brooklyn about two weeks ago. This mom brings in her 6 year old and he's already squirming before I even turn the clippers on. I kept telling him to hold still but he's twisting around trying to watch the TV. Next thing I know my Andis Master clippers jam up and smoke starts coming out the vent. The blade locked up and the motor just died. I had to finish the whole cut with scissors and a trimmer which took forever. Mom was cool about it but I was so embarrassed. Now I always make sure to ask parents upfront if their kid can handle sitting through a cut. If they say no I either turn them away or use the trimmers only from the start. Has anyone else had a tool die on them mid-cut? What did you do?

Oh see I gotta push back a little on that "all about the clippers" thing. I mean yeah technique matters a ton but if you're using dull clippers or ones that don't suit your hair type it's gonna be a mess no matter how good your hands are. For me the tool is still half the battle honestly.
