Finally got my fade work down after a booth rental swap in Phoenix
I moved over to a new shop on 7th Street about 3 months ago and my blends got way sharper. One of the old-timers there, Mike, showed me how he uses a trimmer to knock out the weight line before clippering over it. Has anyone else had a shop change just click like that and fix some technique issue?

Wait wait wait... Mike showed you how to use a trimmer to knock out the weight line before clippering over it? I mean that's like some next level barber sorcery right there. I been cutting for almost four years and nobody ever showed me that trick, I've just been going over the same spot like three times hoping it blends. Sounds like that shop change was exactly what you needed, sometimes the right person showing you one little thing changes everything.

Three years ago I watched a guy at a shop in Dallas do it and it was the worst haircut I've ever seen, faded like a mountain range. If you're not careful with that trimmer you'll dig a trench into the scalp and then you're chasing shadows for the next twenty minutes, @val949. Plus over here in the UK a lot of barbers think it's cheating and that you should be able to hit the weight line with just your guards and clipper over comb. But hey, if Mike's trick works for you and keeps the line from showing up again, fair enough - just don't blame me when you nick a customer's ear trying to be fancy.

Nah that Dallas guy's haircut sounds like a total nightmare, I feel for whoever sat in that chair.
