Had a client in Detroit last month ask for a skin fade with a straight razor only

He didn't want any clippers touching his head, said he was sick of the lines. How would you even approach that without buzzing in a guideline first?

I mean, I actually get where he's coming from even if I might do it different. A solid straight razor fade can look way cleaner if you map it out by eye and check your angles as you go.

Start by mapping the fade zones with your eyes while the hair's dry, using the natural curvature of the head as your guide. Work the straight razor in slow, overlapping strokes from the bottom up, checking each section against the next so the blend stays smooth. Keep the blade almost flat against the skin as you go higher to avoid digging in too deep. It takes longer but you can get a real soft transition without any clipper lines at all.

Honestly, that's just how people are these days, tired of shortcuts in everything.
