I finally chose the clipper over the straight razor for my fade work

After 3 years of barbering I always used a straight razor for my necklines because that's what my mentor taught me. Last week I had a client with really sensitive skin near Newark and he asked me to try clippers instead. Took me 2 tries to get the hang of it but the guy said it was the most comfortable neck shave he ever got. Has anyone else made the switch and stuck with it?

Wait, you really went three years without ever even trying clippers on a neckline? I feel like that first time must have felt totally weird, but honestly good for you for finally giving it a shot for that client. Clients saying it was "the most comfortable" is a pretty solid sign you made the right call.

Man that's a solid move... I actually read somewhere that some barbers are switching because of all the lawsuits over razor bumps and nicks. Seems like more guys are asking for clippers these days anyway. Gotta respect a mentor but clients talking about comfort is hard to ignore.

Three years without trying clippers on a neckline is crazy but I get it... mentors really drill that straight razor habit in deep. @bennett.nora mentioned the first time feeling weird and yeah, that first time I had to remind myself to go slow and not press too hard. The client's reaction changed my whole view on it though, some guys just hate that blade feel near their throat. I've been doing a mix ever since, clippers for the sensitive ones and razor for everyone else.
