I fixed a noisy clipper in 20 minutes after 2 years of dealing with it
Honestly, I’ve been a barber for 8 years and I always thought a loud, vibrating clipper was just part of the job. My Oster Octane started making this grinding noise about 2 years ago and I kept putting up with it, thinking it needed a new motor or something expensive. Last week I finally got frustrated enough to take it apart and clean the blade assembly. Turned out there was just a tiny piece of hair and oil gunk stuck between the blade and the pivot pin. Sprayed some coolant, wiped it down, and it ran silent in under 20 minutes. I felt like an idiot for not trying that sooner because I could have saved myself 2 years of annoying noise. Has anyone else wasted way too much time on a simple fix they ignored?

That crusty old gunk builds up like cement in there.

You ever have a buddy who thought he could just scrape it out with a screwdriver? My friend Mike spent a whole afternoon chipping away at his stove top, ended up scratching the hell out of it and the gunk still wouldn't budge. He finally caved and soaked it in vinegar overnight, then it peeled right off like nothing.

Won't argue with that. Vinegar and elbow grease are about the only things that touch it.
