Just figured out I was dulling my shears this whole time
I've been wiping my shears down with a regular paper towel after every cut, but last week my mentor saw me do it and yelled STOP. Apparently the fibers in cheap paper towels are abrasive enough to mess up the edge over time. He handed me a microfiber cloth and said I probably took 6 months off my shears' life already. Has anyone else been doing this wrong without realizing it?

Wait, paper towels can actually dull shears that much?

Man, I felt this one deep. I used cheap paper towels for like two years before a coworker finally stopped me. @rowanharris yeah, it's a real thing. The fibers in those things are basically tiny little rocks scraping against the blade. I switched to a microfiber cloth and oiled wipe down after every use. My shears feel way smoother now, no joke. It's wild how something so small can mess up expensive tools.
