Old timer told me to skip the hot towel, I should have listened sooner
Guy who's been cutting hair since the 80s at the shop on 9th street said hot towels were just for show and actually dried out the skin, making the shave worse. I kept doing it anyway because it felt professional, but after 3 weeks of ingrown complaints from my chair I dropped the towel and the razor burn basically vanished. Any other barbers find the classic routine does more harm than good for certain clients?
Hot towels are honestly way overhyped for most guys, especially anyone with sensitive skin or tight pores. I had the same thing happen after I switched to a cold rinse instead, my regulars who used to complain about razor bumps stopped mentioning it entirely. Old habits die hard but the results speak for themselves, sometimes the classic way is just not the best way anymore.
