My grandfather’s barber in St. Louis did the same thing back in the seventies. It feels like a lost art now, where speed and convenience have taken over most trades. You see it everywhere, from how we fix cars to the way we make coffee. That barber’s skill is a reminder of a time when doing one thing really well was the whole point.

Speed and convenience have actually made these skills more available to everyone. A good haircut used to cost a lot and take all day, but now it's cheap and fast. That old way wasn't better, it was just harder to get.

But what if the old way was actually better? That kind of skill shows a deep care for the craft... not just speed. It's a shame to lose that for a few minutes saved.
