Spent 4 hours trying to fade a guy's cowlick and still messed it up

Had a client come in last Tuesday with a wicked cowlick right on his crown. Tried everything I knew from the YouTube barbers and even busted out my $40 Wahl clipper. After 4 hours of blending and reblending, it still looked like a divot. Anyone else have a spot that just refuses to cooperate no matter what?

Man I feel this. Spent nearly three hours on a guy's double crown last month and still lost the battle.
