Spent 45 minutes trying to blend a stubborn cowlick on a regular client

This guy, Mark, comes in every two weeks and his left side cowlick just would not lay down today. I tried thinning shears, product, even a different comb angle. Finally got it after switching to my old Andis T-liner with a 1.5 guard for a softer approach. Anyone have a go-to method for those persistent crown swirls?

See, the thing people miss is that a cowlick isn't just hair, it's muscle memory. That client has been training that hair to stand up for years by sleeping on it the same way, maybe even how he rests his head in his hand. I'll sometimes ask them to show me exactly how they towel dry their hair. You'd be shocked how often they're rubbing that spot raw and training it to rebel. It's about breaking the habit as much as cutting the hair.

Honestly, that sounds like way too much work for a cowlick. Sometimes you just have to tell the client it's a natural hair pattern and move on.

Way too much work" is the whole problem with everything now. People want a quick fix, not to solve the thing. It's like when my phone battery dies fast and I just want a new charger, but the real issue is I have fifty apps running in the back. We're trained to slap a band-aid on stuff. But the cowlick, or the bad battery, or the squeaky door, it's usually a sign of a deeper habit. Ignoring that just means the problem comes right back.
