Stop using thinning shears on wet hair for texture cuts

I saw three different barbers at the shop in Austin last week grab thinning shears on damp hair to add texture... and every single cut came out fuzzy and uneven. Wet hair clumps together so those shears just chop random chunks instead of blending smoothly. How are you even checking your blend when the hair dries and shifts completely different? Has anyone else had to fix these kinds of cuts coming in from other shops?

Yeah but if you're using them right on towel-dried hair they can work okay, the issue is probably more about how heavy-handed those barbers were being. A light touch and checking the hair section by section makes a huge difference.

I tried those same clippers on my wavy hair last year and what finally clicked for me was using way less oil than I thought I needed. I used to coat the blades until they dripped, but that just made everything slip around and miss sections. I started wiping the blade clean between passes, just a tiny drop of oil for the pivot, then working in small sections like 2 inch strips. The difference was night and day, no more random long hairs poking out everywhere. A buddy of mine still loads his clippers up with oil and his cuts always come out patchy, so I really think less is more with this stuff.
