Vent: I held my clippers like a pencil for 6 years until a client laughed
A guy in the chair on Tuesday asked if I was trying to draw a line on his head, and it hit me that my whole grip was putting pressure on the wrong finger, so has anyone else had a basic technique flaw that took a random comment to expose?
Man, six years is a long time to be holding a pencil that buzzes. My own moment came when a kid asked me if I was trying to strangle the clippers, since my whole fist was white-knuckled around them. Turns out I was squeezing so hard I'd go numb in my thumb after two cuts, and I just thought that was part of the job. Now I hold them like a normal person, but my left hand still cramps up if I think about it too hard. At least your client laughed, mine just looked scared.
