Then my sister talked me into one last summer and it has run almost every Sunday since, so now I want to know what cheap thing you all wrote off that ended up being a workhorse.
My buddy Dale bought a $3 rice cooker at a church rummage sale in 2019 and that thing has made rice, oatmeal, and even steamed veggies almost every week since. I read somewhere that most small kitchen stuff from the 80s and 90s was built with simple parts that just keep going, unlike the new ones with digital screens that die in a year. A cracked lid on a slow cooker is usually just the glass, not the actual working parts, so it still holds heat fine. People toss stuff like that because it looks rough but the motor or heating coil is what matters. Dale's cooker looks like it got dropped down a flight of stairs and it still runs perfect. Feels like half the good stuff out there gets thrown out just because of a scratch or a ding.
