Spent $40 on a 'vintage' wool coat at a flea market in Austin. Dry rot everywhere.
Everyone raves about finding old Pendleton stuff but I learned the hard way that vintage wool can fall apart if it wasn't stored right. The lining was shredded after one wear and the sleeves got holes within a week. Has anyone actually had luck restoring old coats or am I just unlucky here?

Oh man that sucks lol. I had pretty good luck patching holes with iron-on mending fabric from a craft store and hand stitching the lining back together, but it takes forever and the coat still looks kinda busted up after.

Right? Did the same thing last winter and it still looked rough no matter what I did lol.

You mentioned "the coat still looks kinda busted up after" - did you try a matching thread color or just whatever you had on hand? @the_nathan that's the part I always mess up, the color matching makes the patch job way more obvious. I spent two hours on a denim jacket once and it still looked like a toddler fixed it lol.
