The golden age of garage sale electronics is gone around here

I used to find old stereos and receivers at garage sales for like 5 to 10 bucks in my neighborhood outside Portland back around 2010. Now everyone wants 50 bucks for a busted DVD player because they look up prices on eBay first. Has anybody else seen the same shift in your area over the last decade or so?

Snag the old lady's vintage Pioneer receiver for a fiver? More like get laughed at while she pulls up eBay on her iPhone and asks for 200 bucks because "that's what they go for." I went to a sale last summer where a guy wanted 40 dollars for a dusty, cracked VCR that didn't even have the remote. I told him they're basically paperweights now and he just shrugged and said "someone will pay." The whole thing is ridiculous, people are completely delusional.

Take it easy on them, honestly. Some people just think they hit the jackpot because they saw one listing for 200 bucks and don't realize that's not the going rate in real life. Half the time they end up sitting on that junk for months before they finally drop it to 10 bucks or just donate it. Ngl, I still find plenty of decent stuff if you hit sales early enough and aren't too picky. People get too worked up over what some random seller thinks their broken VCR is worth. Just move on to the next sale and let them keep their dust collector.
