Vent: my neighbor told me to hit garage sales in the last 30 minutes and I owe her a coffee now
I used to show up at garage sales right when they opened, thinking that was the only way to get the good stuff before anyone else. My neighbor Deb, who has been doing this for like 15 years, kept telling me I was wasting my time. She said the real magic happens in the last half hour, when people just want everything gone and stop caring about prices. I smiled and nodded because it sounded backwards to me. Then a few Saturdays back I rolled up to an estate sale in Franklin around 2:30 in the afternoon, mostly just to kill time. The guy running it looked tired and said make me an offer on anything left. I walked out with a working KitchenAid mixer, a box of old hand tools, and a cast iron pan for 15 bucks total. Deb was right and I was wrong, plain and simple. Now I want to hear from you all, do you hit sales early or late, and has a friend ever changed how you shop?
