I was back in my hometown last month and stopped at the diner where I worked at 19. Went to use the bathroom and there's a fancy new lock, motion lights, the whole thing. Back then the door didn't even latch, so you'd sit there with your foot jammed against it just to get 30 seconds of peace. I used to hide in there during double shifts just to breathe for 2 minutes before the lunch rush hit. Feels dumb but I miss how nobody needed a sign or a phone, you just knew the bathroom was the one place to be alone. Did anyone else have a hiding spot at an old job that got upgraded and ruined the vibe?
