Picked the $15 hand pruner over the $50 one and it was fine

I was about to buy that fancy Felco pruner at the garden center on Main Street because everyone swears by them, but I grabbed a $15 Fiskars instead. My neighbor told me she's had the same cheap pair for 4 summers and they still cut like new after she sharpens them once a year. I used it yesterday on some thick rose canes and it worked great, no regrets. Anyone else skip the expensive gear and get by just fine?

Minor correction - Fiskars isn't really "cheap," it's actually a solid mid-range brand that holds up way better than the true budget stuff from the hardware store.

Fiskars is one of those brands where you pay a little more upfront but actually save money long term. Had a pair of their pruning shears for going on 8 years now and they still cut clean as the day I bought them. That hardware store stuff you're talking about usually starts rusting or getting dull after one season of heavy use.
