Even cheap cable cutters can work if you sharpen them first

I grabbed an old $10 pair from a garage sale, ran a file over the blade for 5 minutes, and they cut through Shimano shift housing cleaner than my Park Tool ones lol. Anyone else do this trick or is it just me being cheap?

Tried the same thing with a pair of harbor freight cutters. Filed the edge at a steeper angle and they slice through brake housing like butter. Lasted about 6 months before the steel gave out but for the price it was totally worth it.
