Fancy torque wrench vs my calibrated elbow, the elbow won until it didn't

Been turning wrenches at the shop for 12 years now. Always bragged I could feel 5Nm on a carbon seatpost clamp without a tool. Boss bought a new digital torque wrench last month, the $300 kind. I laughed and kept using my method. Tuesday I snapped a carbon rail on a customer's $400 saddle because I gave it one extra grunt. That wrench paid for itself in one afternoon. Now I use it on anything carbon or aluminum with a torque spec under 10Nm. My elbow is now only for oil filters on my truck. Anyone else out there still trusting the feel method on expensive parts?

Ugh, that hurts just reading it! So after that $400 mistake, are you actually checking the spec on every single part now, or just the ones you KNOW are fragile? I'm curious if you've caught yourself second guessing that "feel" on stuff you used to be dead sure about.
