Finally tried Park Tool pink grease after using automotive stuff for years
I've been using regular automotive bearing grease on my bottom brackets and headsets since I started working on bikes 6 years ago. Last month I picked up a tube of the Park PolyLube 1000 on a whim when I was at the co-op. After rebuilding my daughter's mountain bike hub with it last weekend, I'm kicking myself for not switching sooner. The stuff just stays put way better and doesn't get that weird watery consistency when it gets wet. Anyone else notice a big difference between bike-specific grease and the generic stuff?

Oh man, I used to be the same way. I figured grease is grease, why spend extra? But I grabbed some of that pink Park stuff last year and yeah, it really does stay in place way better when things get wet or muddy. Kinda changed my mind on that one.

Idk it's wild how much of a difference it makes once you actually try it. I was exactly the same way, just grabbing whatever grease was cheapest at the auto parts store for years. Then a buddy gave me a little sample of the Park stuff and my drivetrain felt way smoother after a muddy ride, like it actually stayed on the chain. Now I just suck it up and pay the few extra bucks for it, way less hassle with repacking bearings all the time.

Is it just me or does this kind of stuff happen everywhere in life? Like how people use cheap tools for years then finally try a nice one and wonder why they waited.
