I thought hydro dipping rims was a joke until I saw a set done right at a shop in Austin

Tbh I was always skeptical about hydro dipping bike rims. It seemed like a gimmick that would just peel off after a few rides. But last month I stopped into a custom paint shop in Austin and the owner showed me a set they'd prepped and cleared properly. Looked like ceramic coating, not cheap wrap. Has anyone else tried this and had it hold up long term? I'm still on the fence about doing my own set.

Nah man, I've seen too many of these jobs bubble up or yellow after a few months in the sun, no matter how good the clear coat looks at first. That shop's showpiece probably won't look the same after a single summer of road heat and brake dust.

Is that shop the same one off of 5th street? My buddy tommy got a bronze wheel job done there last summer. Looked mint for about four months, then the clear started flaking off near the lug holes and the color went all cloudy. He took it back and they tried to blame it on his brake cleaner.

Did you read that thread on here last year where someone tested ten different hydro dip clear coats?
