Just crossed 500 derailleur adjustments in my first year as a shop mechanic

Hit that milestone yesterday on a 10 speed gravel bike and it finally clicked that I can diagnose shifting problems by sound alone now, anyone else notice a big jump in speed around that number?

Oh wow. Congrats, that's a real skill milestone for sure.

Jump right into noticing that same kind of tipping point happening in other things too. I've been gardening for years and somewhere around the third season it just clicked - I could tell by looking at a leaf whether something was hungry, thirsty, or diseased without grabbing a book. My wife quilts and she says the same thing hit her around her fiftieth quilt, where she can feel a quarter inch difference in seam allowance just by running her fingers over it. That number seems to be different for everybody but the pattern is real. There's a point where your brain stops processing information and just knows.

... wait 500? In one year? That's insane. I mean I thought I was doing a lot but I'm barely scratching 200 and I feel like I'm still guessing half the time. Like I can hear a cable housing issue from a mile away now but that's about it. How many of those were on the same bike too, like people bringing it back the next week?
