PSA: That park tool truing stand I bought at a garage sale was a total bust
Picked up a beat up Park Tool TS-2 at a garage sale near Portland for $40, thought I was getting a steal. Turns out the dial indicator was seized and the adjustable arm was bent, so I ended up spending more on parts than a new stand costs. Has anyone else had luck restoring old shop tools or is it just not worth the hassle?

Oh come on, is a stuck dial indicator and a bent arm really that big of a deal? You can find replacement parts for those old TS-2s all over eBay for like $30 if you hunt around. Seems like you gave up awfully fast on a $40 project that probably just needed a little elbow grease (and maybe some penetrating oil).

Had a buddy who bought a beat-up TS-2 thinking it was just a stuck dial and a quick fix. Turned out the whole shaft was warped and it was a nightmare to seat right. Sometimes a $30 gamble turns into a $90 headache with shipping and waiting for parts. @faith_carter makes a fair point about elbow grease, but some projects are just cursed from the start.
