Question about the week 4 people brought me the same bike and I fixed it 4 different ways
I had a guy bring in a 2011 Trek hybrid on Monday with a rear wheel that wobbled, so I trued it and sent him off. He came back Thursday saying it still wobbled, and it did, because his axle was bent and I never checked it the first time. Friday he shows up again, same bike, same complaint, and now the hub cones are loose because my truing job was fine but the bearing play was the real issue. Saturday he walks in with a box of donuts and says the bike shop on Grand told him the wheel was toast and he needed a new one for $180, but I pulled it apart and found a cracked rim strip shorting everything out. The whole thing cost him $22 in parts and I felt like a dummy for not checking the whole wheel the first day. Any of you have a rule for how deep to go on a wobble before you just tear the hub down?
