The old shop I walked into in Portland had a Park Tool stand from the 80s still working

Stopped by Tom's Bike Shop off Hawthorne last week to grab a chain whip. Noticed they had an old Park Tool PRS-2 stand in the corner, still in use. Made me think about how shops used to invest in stuff that lasted decades, not the disposable stuff we see now. Anyone else seen a tool that old still kicking around?

Honestly, the real flex with those old Park Tool stands is the cast iron base. The new ones use stamped steel that bends if you look at it wrong. I bet that PRS-2 weighs twice as much but it's probably never wobbled on a heavy mountain bike once in forty years.

You got that right, @alex307. I helped a buddy move one of those old PRS-2 stands last weekend, and I swear my back is still complaining. The new stamped steel ones are lighter sure, but I've seen them start to wobble with a basic aluminum road bike. That old cast iron base is like a boat anchor, but it'll hold a full sized downhill rig steady as can be.

Shoot, you might be right. Never thought about the base weight like that before.
