Vent: A customer told me my shop's repair estimate was too low

This guy brought in a vintage Peugeot with a seized bottom bracket and worn drivetrain. I quoted him $150 for the full rebuild, thinking I was being fair. He looked at me and said, 'You're not charging enough for your skill and time.' It was the first time a customer argued my price was too cheap. Made me stop and really look at my labor rates compared to other shops in town. Has anyone else had a client push back on a quote for being too low?

Nora's got a point. That kind of feedback is a huge sign you're undercharging. It happened to a friend with a custom frame repair. He quoted three hundred for a full realignment and the client told him to double it, saying the quote didn't match the shop's reputation. Made him redo his whole price sheet. Sometimes you need that outside view to see your own worth.

Ever think clients might just be testing you?
