Wasted $40 on a fake Park Tool chain checker

Bought it on eBay. Looked legit in the pics. Showed 0.5 wear on a brand new chain straight out of the box. Anyone else get burned by counterfeit tools?

Is there any chance the chain itself was the problem and not the tool? Even legit tools can give weird readings if the chain is poorly made or stored for too long.

Counterfeit junk is everywhere now, even paying more doesn't guarantee you're getting the real thing.

Read a report from the Better Business Bureau saying counterfeit products are flooding online marketplaces even on official storefronts lol. It's wild how brands like @gibson.sarah can hike up prices and still end up with fakes slipping through the supply chain. Feels like you gotta do detective work just to buy a basic accessory these days.
