Had to choose between The Americans and Better Call Saul for my next binge

Last month I finished a long run of lighter comedies and wanted to get into something more serious. I kept seeing both The Americans and Better Call Saul recommended everywhere and I could only commit to one at a time. I picked The Americans first because I remembered watching the pilot years ago and liking it. After three episodes I almost quit because the slow pace was testing my patience. But around episode 7 of season 1 things clicked and by season 2 I was staying up until 1 AM on work nights. The character work on that show is incredible and the tension just builds episode after episode. Now I am finally starting Better Call Saul and wondering if it will hit me the same way. Has anyone else gone through these two back to back and found one clearly better than the other?

Did you start from episode 1 or jump in later? Because I gotta say I was dragging through the first few episodes myself, the pacing was just off and I kept checking how much time was left. But once they got to that reveal in episode 7 with the old farmhouse and the letters, I was totally hooked. It changed everything for me too, that scene where they find the hidden closet actually gave me chills. So yeah I feel you, it really does take its sweet time getting there but man is it worth the wait.
